Every act of creation must account for what it takes from the Earth, how long it serves life, and what it returns. A serious research programme in development. Not another green badge looking for a brochure.

The question
Should we build it? What must we take? How long will it remain useful? Can it change? Can it come apart? What remains valuable afterwards? What has the place gained because it exists?

A design cycle for products, buildings and infrastructure. It begins before extraction and continues beyond the first owner. Recycling is not the goal; retaining useful value is.

Question the need

Retain, adapt, share or repair before commissioning new material and new construction.

Understand the source

Identify provenance, extraction impacts, labour, land, water, habitat and evidence quality.

Create responsibly

Reduce material demand, harmful chemistry, process energy, avoidable waste and unnecessary complexity.

Assemble intelligently

Prefer accessible, reversible connections and independent layers over destructive permanent bonding.

Use fully

Design for durability, usefulness, efficient operation and a service life proportionate to the resources consumed.

Maintain, repair and upgrade

Short-life components must be replaceable without destroying the long-life product or building around them.

Disassemble and recover

Record the sequence, tools, access and likely damage before the assembly is approved for construction.

Return without harm

Keep technical materials in technical cycles. Return biological materials only where chemistry and treatment make that genuinely safe.

Re-earth is not landfill with better copy. Materials should remain at their highest useful value through maintenance, direct reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacture and repurposing before recycling or safe biological return is considered.
